A message from Dr. Tharp

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Balance.

Life can be challenging and difficult.  Each one of us is vulnerable to feelings of sadness and worry when life's stressors become too great. Sometimes these issues can develop into more serious mental illness, such as clinical depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and even psychosis.  Mental illness is the most common health condition in the United States, with more than 50% being diagnosed with a mental illness at some point in their life and 1 in 5 being diagnosed within a given year.

My practice focus is not on illness, but rather on health and wellbeing.  Each maladaptive symptom expressed is a creative, artistic endeavor to adapt and survive hard things. Thus, you are a survivor! You are a survivor with your own distinct history, story, values, desires, strength and weaknesses.  My hope is to work collaboratively with you in a patient-centered approach so that we can tailor the best treatment plan for you that provides optimal benefit.

While I treat a variety of psychiatric concerns, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders to name a few, I am particularly passionate about reproductive and maternal mental health as well as trauma-related disorders in all populations of people.

Medication management is certainly a part of my practice; however, it is my firm belief that a pill is rarely the sole answer to any mental health issue. Studies demonstrate over and over that the nature of the therapeutic relationship is an integral part of the healing process and thus I strive to build a trusting relationship through warmth, empathy and genuine curiosity. Ultimately, my practice style includes biological, psychological and lifestyle interventions to help my patients lead rich, fulfilling and purposeful lives.

Please feel free to peruse this site for more information about my practice, and then complete and submit a request for consultation to see if my approach is right for you.

Balance Psychiatry & Wellness is currently an out-of-network provider except for the insurance listed above.  If we do not work with your insurance, we will provide you with an itemized bill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

If you live in Texas or South Carolina and have Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, Oscar or Oxford insurances, your services should be covered. Additionally, BCBS coverage is available in Texas only.  If in network, you will just need to provide your co-pay prior to your appointment. All other insurances (including Medicare and Medicaid) are out of network. It is variable which insurance companies will reimburse you for your costs.  For those who do not have insurance or the insurance is out-of-network, full payment for services is due at the time of your scheduled appointment.

We can gladly give to you what is referred to as a “superbill” once you have paid for your services if you want to work with your insurance company for reimbursement for your care.

For out-of-network patients, to help eliminate the frustration that comes along with filing insurance claims, we have registered with Reimbursify to make it quick and easy for you to file claims, track submissions and get paid.
