Insurance and Financial Policies
Insurance Payment: Dr. Tharp participates with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Oscar insurances to offer patients treatment. BCBS is available to Texas patients only. Verification of benefits must be completed prior to scheduling initial intake. If there is a change in the insurance plan, please notify our office immediately. If there are copays of a full deductible, payment is expected at the time of service.

Additional services not covered by insurance : Insurance companies do not reimburse for some services. If a patient requests a service that is not covered by insurance, there will be a charge of $30 per 10-minute interval to complete this request if completed outside of a regularly scheduled appointment time. Some examples of patient requests that will result in additional charges include:
-
Preparation of reports for other providers or organizations.
-
Telephone calls lasting more than 5 minutes.

No-Show/Late-Cancel Fees:
Appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled at least two (2) business days in advance.
-
Cancellations received after the 2-business-day window are considered late cancellations.
-
Same-day cancellations also fall under this category.
Late cancellations for a follow-up appointment will incur a reservation charge equal to the FULL COST of the scheduled appointment. For an intake, the reservation charge will be half of the private pay rate for a new patient appointment. These fees are not reimbursable by insurance and are the patient’s personal financial responsibility. Fees apply to all patients, regardless of insurance type (in-network or out-of-network). Fees can be waived for extenuating circumstances, and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
-
For example, a no show (failure to show to a scheduled appointment) or late cancellation (failure to cancel an appointment within 2 business days) of an initial evaluation appointment is assessed a fee of $225.
-
A no-show or late cancellation of an intermediate follow-up appointment will be assessed a fee of $200.
LATE ARRIVAL
To maintain the schedule and ensure all patients receive proper care:
-
If you anticipate being about 10 minutes late, please notify us as soon as possible.
-
When feasible, we may convert the appointment to a virtual visit to avoid a rushed or shortened session.
-
Arriving more than 10 minutes late may result in:
-
The appointment being marked as a no-show, and
-
A reservation fee being charged.
-

Notice to clients and prospective clients:
-
Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
-
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy and psychiatric services.
-
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.
-
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
-
For questions or more information about your rights to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
Forms of Payment: We accept most credit cards. There is no cost to the patient for credit card processing.

Credit Card Authorization: All patients are required to provide us with a credit card number which we leave on file. Your credit card is used to secure payment for unpaid balances for over 30 days. The practice retains the right to charge your credit card automatically if any of the above fees apply.
